Stevenson hits the road with his mare Modestine from Le
Monastier to Saint jean du Gard. His log book, published 1878 as
Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes, has been read since then
by generations.

goes from the Haute Loire through the pays du Gévaudan and the
Mont Lozère till the protestant Cévennes.
